JOEY: Stubb's.
Located conveniently downtown, just off the famous 6th street, Stubb's BBQ has been a Texas institution for almost 50 years, starting in Lubbock in the late 1960's. The food itself, perfected by owner and chef Christopher "Stubb" Stubblefeld, was an instant hit. Shortly after opening, Stubb started hosting legendary musicians at the restaurant, beginning an unprecedented legacy. In the 1970's, icons such as Austin locals Stevie Ray Vaughn and Willie Nelson, blues legend Muddy Waters, and country firebrand Johnny Cash played the venue. Since the 70's, Stubb's has seen all variety of musicians, from blues, to country, to indie rock and electronica, making it one of the most popular venues in the city. On any given night, visitors can catch a memorable show while eating a memorable meal.
As for the food, Stubb's has some of the best barbecue Austin has to offer. All of their meat, including Austin's infamous brisket, is cooked slowly every day, leaving it tender and juicy. Paired with Stubb's famous sauce and a cold beer, it carries a taste as big as Texas.
To experience everything Austin has to offer, or to get an unique taste of a fantastic city, Stubb's BBQ is an excellent place to start.
