Introducing Google's Learning Management System: Google Classroom

Google Classroom was recently introduced, and in August, it was made available to all Google Apps for teachers and educators. Designed to allow teachers go paperless, Classroom not only reduces paper use, but makes life easier for teachers as well. Instead of spending so much time dealing with creating papers, keeping track of papers and grading papers, Classroom allows teachers to save time on paperwork so they spend more time ensuring students get a great education.

Both teachers and students helped in the development of Classroom, ensuring that teachers and students have a great experience when using Classroom. For example, teachers can collaborate with their students in multiple ways, commenting on assignments while they work on them and after they are complete. When assignments are created, teachers can attach multiple Google Drive files, such as Google Slides, Google Sheets, Excel, Word documents and Google Docs. Teachers also have an area where they can post materials and information about the class – the About Page.

One of the timesaving features that come with Classroom includes the ability to create a Drive folder for every student and for every assignment, aiding with organization. Teachers can also automatically provide copies of documents for every student in the class. Students can head to the Assignments page where they can see when assignments are due and start working on assignments. Real-time information allows teachers to see which students have not finished their work and allows for instant grading and feedback.

Currently Classroom comes in 42 different languages, making it an exciting teaching tool for educators around the world. Classroom also works well on more than desktops and laptops. It performs well on most screen readers and mobile devices, making it easy for teachers and students to access information on the go.

Google continues rolling out Classroom, and while many educators already have access to the app, the rollout is not complete. Individuals that don’t have access should keep checking, since more users will be added each day.
